THE PROBLEM WITH MONOPOLY POWER

THE PROBLEM WITH MONOPOLY POWER

When I grew Up I was taught that “Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu” which signify that every person to be where he wants to be he/she has to get help from other people. Many of you might be stunned that how this is statement relates to what you see in the picture above. Well for companies like Putco to where they are today they needed our parents, Grandparents, sisters, brothers, uncle.etc. The questioned that should be really asked here is “who’s to be blamed?”Well, without any fear, I blame Putco for treating people as if their animals.

My Economics professor used to say “whenever you have huge demand of service is greater than the supply...you are going to experience a problem” That apply to same situation at hand as we speak. The Putco Company sells too many tickets to people but they provide little transport for the same people. Some of people might say “that just being ungrateful”. Do we have to be grateful for what is happening at this moment? Old grandparents being pushed like a wheel barrow? Do we have to be grateful for our own parents losing their wallets due to the traffic jam at the Putco doors? I boldly argue that you can`t blame people for this situation.

They’re just trying to get home and fighting for a seat is the way to go...having limited seats but unlimited tickets is the problem. The minister of transport should fight for our beloved Putco passengers. The reason why Putco has the monopoly power is due to the lack of competition hence; I suggest those people with big transport companies to open their eyes and see the opportunity at hand. The reason why we take Putco is because it is affordable and it is the only convenient transport we have so far so please somebody help  the deprived Kwandebele people.
